ISKANDAR MALAYSIA URBAN OBSERVATORY (IMUO)

The active urban and developmental challenges in Iskandar Malaysia requires Iskandar Malaysia Urban Observatory (IMUO) to be developed. IMUO is a ‘single window’ that integrates data from various authoritative sources and transforms them into actionable information for better policy making and well-informed decision making. This will also enhance spatial planning and provide better public policies that are benchmarked to international standards and result to better coordinated policies and planning processes with subnational governments. In setting the momentum for Digital Economy in Iskandar Malaysia, IMUO collaborates with its partners in developing smart technology that will be utilised in Smart City Solutions through various pilot projects currently undergoing for making this city smarter.

HOW IMUO FIT WITH THE MUO FRAMEWORK

The experience of developing IMUO will be one of the guides in the development of Malaysia Urban Observatory (MUO). MUO adopted IMUO’s Framework and designated IMUO as the pilot project for MUO. IRDA-IMUO team is a member of the Technical Working Committee for the Malaysian Urban Observatory (MUO).

MUO is a platform that enables all agencies involved in urban management to share information and data to address the current municipal issues. MUO will be developed to monitor and evaluate national sustainable township development policy in line with the Sustainable Development Goal (SDGs) and New Urban Agenda (NUA).

SHARED TARGETS ALIGNMENT

IRDA liaise with and manage an extensive list of stakeholders from both public and private sectors. Given the variety of stakeholders and the broad range of engagements involved, having shared goals will be imperative to focus resources so that the various stakeholder relations and processes are aligned and contribute to the same outcomes. The establishment of the IMUO can facilitate this process and develop products with an emphasis on joint goals that serve a wider constituency, in particular for monitoring and evaluation of the respective state and local plans and provide technical products and services to stakeholders that include NGOs and private sector.
