1,300 Vacant Positions Filled
Johor Bahru, Tuesday, April 26th – A total of 7,500 visitors thronged to the Iskandar Malaysia Career Expo (IMCE) 2010 held at Danga City Mall Expo Hall last weekend, immediately filling at least 1,300 positions available there.
Themed ‘Advancing Careers, Enriching Communities’, the IMCE had featured 3,000 positions offered by 50 exhibitors from Government Agencies, Multinational Corporations and Privately Owned Companies.
Jobs available were from the 9 promoted sectors in Iskandar Malaysia, namely Financial Services, Logistic and Related Services, Educational Services, Creative Industry, Leisure and Tourism, Health Services, Electrical and Electronics, Petrochemical and Oleochemical and Food and Agro Processing. The event was organized by Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA) and Labour Department (JTK) and supported by JobsMalaysia Center.
The multitude of visitors were fresh graduates seeking employment opportunities while others were experienced working individuals looking for better job prospects and exploring alternative career paths.
Ahmad Nabil, 30, a factory worker, said he had learnt about the IMCE through a friend and decided to check out the employment offerings, adding he was impressed by the scale of the expo.
“This is not like any other career expo because there are so many companies involved from Government to private sector. This really helps us to seek out job alternatives rather than just scanning through newspaper advertisements. “With more intensified promotions I will not be surprised if the expo gets bigger and bigger each year,” said Ahmad.
Business Administration graduate M.Sugumaran said the IMCE was a platform for him to meet potential employers face-to-face instead of just sending in an application over the post or email. “I really appreciate the organizers coming up with this expo to help fresh graduates like us, especially by incorporating very useful career talks and resume tips to help us out.
“I am looking for a job here in Johor Bahru because with Iskandar Malaysia’s development, I believe that there is now even more potential for career growth here and I am excited to be part of this development ,” added the 24-year-old graduate from Universiti Utara Malaysia.
Another visitor, Johor Bahru-born Shirley Boon, 24, said she was about to graduate in Accounting from Universiti Malaysia Terengganu, and was excited to come back to work in her hometown.
“There are lots of opportunities here, but sometimes we do not know where to look. Therefore I thank the organizers for helping us out by having the IMCE and also JobsMalaysia for helping us in our job placement. It definitely makes life easier!” she exclaimed.
IRDA Communications and Human Capital Development Head Nor Hisham Hussein said the IMCE is one initiatives implemented to facilitate job matching between companies and jobseekers in Iskandar Malaysia, as recommended in the Iskandar Malaysia Human Capital Development Blueprint.
“We are very excited and encouraged with the overwhelming response from the public and will definitely improve and enhance this yearly event,” said Nor Hisham.
