Iskandar Malaysia’s JobsMalaysia Centre Targets 3,000 Applications Over Two Days Career Fair

25 March 2010, By IRDA

JOHOR BAHRU, Thursday, March 25th: Some 3,000 job seekers and employers are expected to register with Iskandar Malaysia’s JobsMalaysia Centre over the next two days to meet the increasing human capital demand in Iskandar Malaysia.

The centre here, officiated by Johor Menteri Besar Dato’ Abdul Ghani Othman was one of the 12 JobsMalaysia centres opened simultaneously nationwide by Prime Minister Datuk Sri Najib Tun Razak today.

Among others, the centres would link job seekers – both domestic and overseas - through a job-matching facility and also provide career guidance and counselling in collaboration with education institutions, schools, government departments and the private sector for placement and promotion of jobs.

Abdul Ghani, who is also Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA) co- chairmen, said through this system, job seekers globally could be linked to employers in Iskandar Malaysia through the matching of key criteria such as job experience, skills, qualifications and others.

“The centre here will also provide accurate and recent workface demand and supply data for Iskandar Malaysia as well as facilitate strategic planning and proactive intervention to close any gaps based on workforce supply and demand.”

“It is projected that this centre will be one of the key factors to meet the employment rate projection and target as per Iskandar Malaysia’s long term goal and aspirations as outlined in the Iskandar Malaysia Human Capital Blueprint,” he said, adding this was one of joint initiative between IRDA and the Labour Department as proposed in the Blueprint.

Abdul Ghani said the target audience was unemployed graduates, retrenched workers, the disabled, single mothers, pensioners, tertiary students, working adults and lifelong learners.

A two-day career fair was also held in conjunction with the centre’s opening here, offering more than 2,000 employment opportunities from some 40 companies based in Iskandar Malaysia.

Abdul Ghani said with the huge pool of job seekers, the career fair was an opportunity for employers to resources with the right skill sets and a platform for prospective employees to meet face-to-face with potential employers.

“There are many employment opportunities existing and being created in Iskandar Malaysia. This is an opportunity for all jobseekers and I urged them to come and find out more about these opportunities, he said.

This initiative is just one of the many examples where the Government, through IRDA and the Labour Department, fulfill its promise of benefits to the people.

Also present was State Unity, Human Resource, Science, Technology and Innovation Committee chairman, who said he was pleased to see this important initiative taking shape and on track as part of the Government’s aspiration to offer job opportunities to the locals.

The other JobsMalaysia centres which were launched today are in CyberJaya, Port Klang and Kelana Jaya in Selangor, Segamat (Johor), Sungai Petani (Kedah), Kota Baru (Kelantan), Ipoh (Perak), George Town (Penang), Kuching (Sarawak), Kota Kinabalu (Sabah) and Kuala Terengganu (Terengganu).
