SEVEN Garbage Cleaning Cars (GCC) will be used in seven locations in Johor Baru to improve the efficiency of SWM Environment Sdn Bhd in waste management.
Four of the GCCs are pedal-powered while the other three use green technology that functions mechanically without the need for fuel or electricity.
SWM Environment general manager Adnan Ibrahim said Johor was the second state to receive such machines following the good response they received when they were deployed during the 13th Malaysia Games (Sukma) in Malacca last June.
"These machines are widely used in China, Japan and several East Asian countries. Its green technology makes it suitable for use in all terrain," said Adnan after the launching of the GCCs by Johor Baru City Mayor Mohd Jaffar Awang,
Adnan said SWM Environment spent about RM25,000 to buy the GCCs, which were imported from China and assembled by a local company. "The use of the GCC is very cost effective as it does the work of three sweepers. If the response is good, we plan to increase the use of the GCC in Johor Baru," said Adnan.
The GCCs will be used in Jalan Datuk Onn, Jalan Ibrahim, Jalan Tun Sri Lanang, the Larkin Public Transport Terminal, Jalan Stulang Laut, Jalan Ibrahim Sultan, Jalan Tanjung Puteri, Jalan Skudai Lama, Jalan Susur Tun Abdul Razak, Jalan Thomson, the area around English College, Jalan Beringin and Taman Melodies.
