THE finals of the KFC Malaysia World Band Competition (WBC) 2010 will be held in Kota Iskandar, Nusajaya, tomorrow from 8am to 11pm.
Twenty-five bands and 1,578 band members from Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, South Africa and Hong Kong will be taking part.
This is the second time the competition is being held.
Organising chairman Datuk Sulaiman Mohd Yusof said the competition could help to promote tourism and encourage youngsters to involve themselves in healthy activities and show off their talents.
"This event can serve as a catalyst for tourism and take Malaysia to the next level as a destination where this world class event is being held.
"We hope that, as organisers, we will have a good relationship with Iskandar Malaysia as it can be an ideal location for holding the championship," he said.
Iskandar Regional Development Authority (Irda) chief executive officer Ismail Ibrahim said the development authority was solidly behind the competition and was confident that it would add colour to Iskandar Malaysia.
He said he hoped that young and old alike would enjoy themselves at the event.
Ismail said 50,000 people were expected to attend the championship finals.
The competition is organised by Yayasan DiRaja Sultan and Z.I Production Sdn Bhd, and supported by the Education Ministry, Royal Malaysian Police and Radio Television Malaysia.
It is hosted by Majlis Bandaraya Shah Alam, Johor Baru City Council and Kota Iskandar, through Irda.
