Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) is allocating RM1.9bil for the next 10 years to provide broadband telecommunications infrastructure in Iskandar Malaysia.
Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman said such upgrades especially in the telecommunications industry would attract foreign investors to the economic region.
Abdul Ghani said foreign investors always looked out for sophisticated telecommunication infrastructure before making a decision to invest in a certain area.
“Having good telecommunications infrastructure, can make Iskandar Malaysia more recognisable in the region,” he said during the opening of TM Sports Carnival at Dataran Bandaraya here.
He said besides attracting investors, the people would also benefit from it.
“TM is working to have broadband services accessible in every area within Iskandar Malaysia.
“Communication will no longer be a problem as everyone will soon enjoy broadband service,” he said.
TM group chief executive officer Datuk Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa said TM always played an important role in implementing High Speed Broadband (HSBB) in Malaysia.
He said for Johor, the service would be extended to Nusajaya, Permas industrial areas and Senai by this year.
“Other industrial areas including Skudai, Pasir Gudang, and Tampoi are expected to receive the HSBB service and UniFi in stages by the end of 2012,” he said.
Zamzamrani also said that TM always supported the state government’s effort of having a network infrastructure for the Johor e-Government project.
“The e-Government project will realise the state government’s desire by changing the conventional working system to a digital system which is faster, more efficient and without using a single paper,” he said.
