MDIS to Set Up a RM300 Million Campus

A RM300 million campus will be set up by the Management Development Institute of Singapore in Iskandar Malaysia. Since Iskandar was set up in 2006, this will be the first major investment in the Johor development corridor by a Singapore organization. Its construction is expected to start in 2011.

Singapore and Malaysia has lately resolved a troublesome land dispute and have entered into joint venture projects in Iskandar and the deal came into existence after that.

MDIS shared that this communion was an important concern in sealing the deal. A 30-acre area of land will be set up by the private university college in Iskandar's EduCity, which will consist of state-of-the-art facilities, a hostel as well as campus-wide wireless access.

Though, the campus will be reopened in three phases, MDIS is expected to enroll about 2,000 students in the first phase, which will be ready by 2013. It will have the capacity to accommodate 10,000 students when it will complete all the three phases by 2023.

The courses which will be initially offered are information technology, business management, mass communications, digital media, and travel and tourism.

MDIS Secretary General, Dr. R Theyvendran shared that Malaysian education sector has developed in the last 10 years and has managed to attract more than 50,000 international students from over 100 countries.
