ISKANDAR Malaysia will be well-connected to Johor Baru with regular bus service once the proposed Rapid Transit Bus System is introduced in two years' time.
Menteri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman said the project had been presented to the state Economic Planning Unit for further action.
For a start, he said the new bus system would ply two major roads in Johor Baru -- Jalan Skudai and Jalan Tebrau -- and all the stops along the routes had already been identified.
"We hope the Land Transport Commissioner will assist us to enable us to implement the bus system by 2012.
"The system is widely used in many countries. I have just returned from Brisbane in
Australia to observe the system which is widely used over there. I think it is better than Mass Rapid Transit (MRT)."
Ghani said the system was more effective and efficient compared to the MRT.
"The state government no longer needs to build a multi-level or underground highway.
"Should the project take off, we plan to use hybrid buses which do not need petrol or diesel, therefore making them environmental-friendly and helping to cut down cost at the same time."
Ghani said the state government would also make sure that the service of all the buses under the system would be punctual.
