Iskandar Regional Development Authority (Irda) chief executive officer Ismail Ibrahim received the Leadership in International Investment award during the second annual Malaysia Business Leadership Awards (MBLA) held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre recently.
The award was conferred on him for making Iskandar Malaysia the most successful investment development region in the country.
Irda head of corporate services Nor Hisham Yusof received the award on Ismail’s behalf, in front of 900 guests in the audience who included ministers, foreign diplomats, industry peers and Asean Business Advisory Council members.
MBLA organising chairman Prof Datuk Syed Amin Aljeffri said the awards was aimed at recognising entrepreneurs, corporate leaders and outstanding personalities in the country, who had excelled in their respective business arena.
“The MBLA awards serve as a mark of recognition for the achievements of leaders because each award recipient’s success story serves as an inspiration and encouragement to their peers and the business community as a whole,” he said.
Through the course of the evening, awards were given out in 38 categories to acknowledge the achievements of various high-profile business leaders in Malaysia and their contributions to the nation’s economic development.
Prof Syed Amin, who is also Kuala Lumpur Malay Chamber of Commerce president, highlighted that all the award winners were carefully selected by a team of experienced and highly professional panel of judges.
Among the recipients were Labour Department director-general Datuk Sheikh Yahya Sheikh Mohamed, Ratings Association Malaysia chief executive officer Tan Sri C. Rajandram and Malaysia Book of Records founder Datuk Danny Ooi.
Iskandar Malaysia has so far attracted committed investments of RM60.18bil from January until April this year compared to RM55.56bil at the end of 2009, which far surpasses the RM45bil target for last year.
