‘Settlement fair, beneficial’

Malaysia did not lose anything with the relocation of the KTMB station from Tanjong Pagar to Woodlands in Singapore.
Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman said that the point of agreement signed between the two countries 20 years ago had stipulated that the station needed to be moved to Woodlands by next year.

“In fact, the settlement signed on Monday was very fair and mutually beneficial to both countries. If the point of agreement was not settled, then we may have to probably move the station from Tanjong Pagar without gaining anything,” he said at his residence here last night.

Ghani said the joint venture set up to develop land on both sides of the Causeway by both countries as part of the settlement was an indication of better relations between the two countries in the future.

He said the plan to build the rapid transport system connecting Johor Baru and Woodlands in Singapore by 2018 was another step forward towards the development of Johor, in particular the Iskandar Malaysia development corridor.
