Malaysia Courts Skilled Immigrants Through Virtual World

Over the weekend Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak officially launched his country's new virtual world program to attract skilled immigrants, called MyWorkLife. The program was developed by Khazanah Nasional Bhd (KNB) and uses a Second Life virtual space to try and show skilled workers why they should consider immigrating and working for Malaysian firms.

Users can upload their resumes, enter the virtual world, and interact with avatar representatives of Malaysian GLCs (government-linked companies). The idea behind MyWorkLife is to showcase Iskandar Mayalsia has a high-growth environment, offering talented workers the chance to advance and enjoy a high standard of living.

Employees may be more willing to locate to a foreign country if it's easier to learn about the area and the difficulties involved in making the movie. In time the portal and virtual space will highlight job opportunities in other regions of Malaysia, including the East Coast Economic Region, Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy, and an assortment of private companies.
