The Johor government is allocating RM500,000 to hold a sports carnival in all the 56 state constituencies beginning this year.

Menteri Besar Johor Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman said the carnival would be held to promote and encourage public participation in sports.

"The decision to hold the carnival has been agreed at the state executive council meeting recently to promote sport," he said at the launch of the Johor Sport Week here Wednesday night.

As such, he said, sports clubs should be formed, including in the villages, to get more youths to be active in sports.

Through the sport carnival, we would be able to scout for new talents to compete at the district, state, national and international level, he added.
