The community should be actively aware of how local councils are spending their money and on what projects they are spending it on, Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said.
He said members of the community should take a more proactive approach and provide ideas and input on future projects as it would benefit them more.
“The community needs to relay intelligent feedback especially to the local councils and have a say in the developments in their areas,” he said during the Program Gerak Kemas organised by the Pasir Gudang Municipal Council, Mawar zone.
He said members of the community should also take the opportunity provided by community programmes to relay their ideas and information to the authorities.
“This is no longer an era where the government knows all. We need the people to tell us what they want and work with us to build a better future for all,” he said.
He added that being involved in future developments would also make the community responsible for the decisions they make.
“We have developed a more open approach and people can no longer blindly point fingers and say that they do not know what is happening in their areas.
“It is their responsibility to know and play an important role in the shaping of future projects in their respective areas,” said Mohamed Khaled.
He said the two-way communication would also allow for a more democratic government as it actively involved the community in the decision-making process.
“People should be ready to say what is on their minds as this will prevent future problems and confusion between the Government and the people themselves,” he added.
