Online system a time-saver for foreigners bound for Singapore

15 January 2010 , By The Star

Foreigners leaving the state for Singapore will now find it easier to get their visas to the republic with the implementation of a web-based application system.

The system, known as the Sub mission of Application for Visa Elec tronically or SAVE, has been operational since Jan 4 at the republic’s new consulate-general’s office here.

Singapore consul in Johor Baru Tham Borg Tsien said the system would facilitate visa application through its appointed agents in the state.
“With the implementation of SAVE, applications for Singapore visas are outsourced to two processing agents.

“These agents will liaise with the consulate-general for the submission and collection of visas,” he said, adding that currently, tourists from Level Two countries would require visas to visit Singapore.

Based on the republic’s immigration and checkpoint authority website, Level Two countries include Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen, Syria, Somalia and Sudan, which are mainly on the terrorism watch list.

The processing agents are B&T Holiday Tours Sdn Bhd and Sri America Travel Corp, both of which are located in Taman Pelangi here.

Each application costs RM71, which is non-refundable, regardless of the outcome of the application. There is also a service fee of RM34 for each visa.
The consulate-general’s office, located at City Square Office Tower in Jalan Wong Ah Fook here, is open daily from Monday to Friday between 8.30am and 1pm, and between 2pm to 5pm.

It is closed on weekends and public holidays.

For further information, contact the consulate-general at 07-226 5012.
