Two community police beats will be built in Taman Bukit Indah, Johor Baru, with allocations from the state Economic Planning Unit and Iskandar Regional Development Authority.
State deputy police chief Datuk Jalaluddin Abdul Rahman said this "policing within the community" approach would help to improve security.
He said the sites where the police beats would be located had been identified.
He said the move to set up the new beats in the Nusajaya housing estate proved that the police were serious about combating crime in the district.
"There are currently three police beats in Nusajaya. They are in Bandar Selesa Jaya, Leisure Farm and Taman Tan Sri Yaacob.
"The two new beats will help to make the area a safe place to live in."
Jalaluddin said this after launching the community policing (CP) programme at Taman Bukit Indah zone A and B.
This is the 11th CP programme to be launched in the Nusajaya police district since the programme was launched two years ago.
The other CP programmes are at Taman Damai Jaya, Taman Tan Sri Yaakob, Nusa Perintis Gelang Patah, Nusantara, Nusa Indah, Pangsapuri Jasa, Nusa Bestari, Lima Kedai Gelang Patah, Bukit Indah Zone E and Villa Krystal.
Jalaluddin said the CP programme had not only helped in policing work but also led to closer ties between the police and the community.
