Johoreans will benefit from the implementation of five 1Malaysia clinics from early next year.
State Women, Family, Health and Community Development Committee chairman Dr Robia Kosai said the clinics would be set up at densely-populated areas in Johor Baru, Kulaijaya and Kluang.
“They will be located in urban areas so that more people will benefit. The chosen areas are those populated by a good mix of ethnic groups in line with the 1Malaysia concept,” she told the State Assembly here.
She added that the clinics would operate from 10am to 10 pm on week days.
Dr Robia was replying to a question on the clinics from Datuk Baderi Dasuki (BN - Panti).
He also wanted to know if the service would be provided in rural areas.
Dr Robia said the clinics would offer outpatient treatment, follow-ups on chronic ailments, laboratory services, medical dispensaries and health consultation.
“They will enhance the rakyat’s access to medical services, particularly those from the lower income group,” she said.
The main reason the clinics would be located in urban instead of rural areas was because the majority of city dwellers were in the lower-income group, she added.
“The clinics will be managed by an assistant medical officer and trained nurses,” she said.
