Malaysia and Singapore are considering an underground border link between the countries.

06 July 2011, By New Straits Times

JOHOR Baru will usher in a new era for its public transport system in 2018 when the proposed RM1.23 billion rail transit network is completed.

Menteri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman said the rail network, which would cover the entire Iskandar Malaysia area, was being planned by Metropolitan Commuter Network (MCN), a joint venture company between KUB Malaysia and Malaysia Steel Works.

It is currently in the process of getting the green light from the Land Public Transport Commission, the Public Private Partnership Unit and the Federal Government.

The proposal submitted by MCN will see the construction and operation of a rail transit network extending from Johor Baru Sentral to the republic's station in Woodlands, Singapore.

Intra-city train not linked to MRT

06 July 2011, By The Star

The proposed intra-city commuter train to be set up in the state will not be directly linked to the Mass Rapid Transport (MRT) system in Singapore, said Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman.

Abdul Ghani said Metropolitan Commuter Network (MCN) had proposed that the existing Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) infrastructure be used for the project.

“Due to this, it will be impossible to directly link the train to the MRT system,” he said in reply to Dr Boo Cheng Hau (DAPSkudai) at the Johor State Assembly yesterday.

He said that apart from setting up an intra-city commuter train, MCN had also proposed to create a link to Woodlands in Singapore, but the project had yet to be approved.

Singapore and Malaysia will also undertake to improve connectivity by opening a Rapid Transit System link from Singapore to Johor Baru by 2018.

A joint technical group is targeting to call the tender for a consultancy study by the fourth quarter of this year.

A joint Singapore-Malaysia statement said: "The terminating stations of the (rapid transit system) link will be in the vicinity of JB Sentral, Johor Baru and in the vicinity of Republic Polytechnic, Singapore.

Kempas berpotensi jadi stesen utama RTS

03 May 2011, By Berita Harian

KEMPAS berpotensi besar menjadi stesen utama projek Sistem Transit Pantas (RTS) Johor susulan ketersediaan kawasan tanah seluas 80 hektar untuk dibangunkan, kata Menteri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman.
